As a payment provider, GoCardless is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) – this means that we have to comply with strict regulatory requirements that help keep us, and our customers safe. This article will give you an overview of our verification requirements.
Please note: GoCardless will not be able to pay out funds to you until your account has been fully verified. If you start collecting payments from customers while undergoing verification, GoCardless will hold these funds until this process has been completed.
|Unfortunately, we are currently unable to automatically verify organisations based in the US. We are working towards streamlining this process, however whilst we do so, our process requires a number of manual steps. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.|
- Verifying your identity
- Verifying your bank account
- Supported business types and documents we may require
To comply with FCA rules, we are required to verify details of your organisation. This will include verifying at least one individual’s identity.
Please note: This check is to confirm you as an individual. As such, we are required to verify your residential address, rather than business address.
In order to complete this verification check, we will ask you for supporting documentation. You can learn more about providing documents for verification here.
When completing the setup section, you will be prompted to enter the details of the bank account where you would like GoCardless to send your payouts.
In order to verify your bank account, we ask that you provide us with a bank statement. Further information on this part of the verification process can be found here.
The types of businesses that we can serve are outlined in the table below, along with documents that GoCardless may request from you to verify your account.

Please note: It is currently not possible to use GoCardless as a US charity/non-profit or partnership. If your organisation has a company number, please choose Limited company. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
